Remediation

Cardinal Resources looks for remediation methods that control sources, incorporate natural processes, and minimize long-term operation and maintenance.  With our depth of experience, there is nothing we haven’t seen.  We have all the tools in the tool box to address environmental remediation issues, using sustainable low-energy approaches when applicable, to bring sites to a fast closure.

Wastewater and Storm Water Management

There are established physical, chemical, and biological treatment and control methods for wastewater and storm water management.  When working with clients to improve water management practices, we not only look at conventional approaches, but at innovative strategies focusing on sustainable, low-energy, low-chemical approaches to deal with:

  • Rain water/storm water management with the objective of reducing non-point source pollution and potentially harvesting water for use in a facility.
  • Grey water recycling and reuse with the objective of reducing the quantity of new water required by operations, and reducing or eliminating the use of potable water for applications where it is not needed.  The ultimate goal is to bring a facility to a water-neutral state with zero discharges.
  • Providing industrial and sanitary wastewater treatment with the possibility of capturing energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Protecting surface water and groundwater throughout the water treatment and management process.

Water Supply

Water supply systems obtain water from a variety of locations, including groundwater (aquifers), surface water (lakes and rivers), conservation, and the sea through desalination.  These systems can provide clean water for drinking or water for industrial use.  Cardinal Resources offers new directions for municipalities, industrial clients, and property developers in new system design and implementation or updating and improving existing systems.

Cardinal Resources‘ diverse technologies provide solutions to the complex issues of water scarcity, supply, storage, distribution, quality, preservation, and restoration of our greatest resource:  water.

Green Infrastructure

Green infrastructure techniques use natural systems or engineered systems that mimic natural landscapes to capture, cleanse, and reduce storm water runoff using plants, soils, and microbes.  Green infrastructure is typically more cost-effective to install and maintain when compared to traditional forms of infrastructure.

Cardinal Resources expands on this traditional definition of green infrastructure by including solar and alternative energy for water supply.  In addition, water treatment systems are designed to use alternative energy sources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  Water reuse, grey water treatment, and rain water harvesting are all examples of uses for green infrastructure approaches.

Environmental Investigations

Environmental investigations cover a range of services depending on the clients’ needs.  These investigations can be categorized as Phase I, Phase II, or Phase III Environmental Site Assessments as well as Environmental Due Diligence.

Cardinal Resources believes the key to cost-effective environmental investigations is to focus on objectives and establish in advance how the findings will be applied, and what the cleanup goals and strategies will be if contamination is found.  We have extensive experience dealing with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and can assist with discussions and negotiations between the client and agencies.

Areas of Expertise:

  • Soil and Groundwater Remediation

Environmental Management and Engineering Design

The purpose of an environmental management program is to protect, preserve, and enhance the public health, safety, and environment through a balanced program of environmental monitoring and enforcement, innovative leadership, community education, customer service, and emergency response. Environmental management also attempts to reduce environmental impact while maintaining a profitable business.

Cardinal Resources thinks of engineering design as a creative, iterative, and open-ended process that takes into account economic, safety, and environmental factors, and codes of practice, and applicable laws. Often, environmental management and engineering design go together.

Regulatory Consulting and Litigation Support

When environmental problems arise with a property as a result of environmental issues, often the landowner, insurance company, or law firm may need the consultation of environmental professionals to help determine where the responsibilities lie and what remedial actions need to be taken. Cardinal Resources has experienced and credible personnel who have provided in-depth expert research and testimony during the resolution of such disputes.
